In the film Padmini plays a classical Bharatnatyam dancer who challenges costar Sivaji Ganesan who is an exponent of the nadaswaram style of music to a contest between music and dance. Padmini's dance performances in the film are electrifying and are some of the best psudo-classical dancing ever filmed.
