I have spent months wondering what to write about Shammi
Kapoor. I keep renting DVDs of his movies and after each one
I put off writing a profile of him for this web site simply
because I want a better rounded picture of him to base a profile
on. Today I jotted down some notes one of which reads, "When
I watch Shammi Kapoor dance I let out a spontaneous cheer".
This spontaneous cheer happened twice in the last Shammi movie
I watched last night, Manmohan Desai's "Bluff Master"
[1963]. Watching Shammi Kapoor dance makes me want to get
up and dance myself.
The other interesting thing in my personal study of Shammi
Kapoor on film is that each film I have seen him in was made
a year or two earlier than the previous film I watched him
in. So Shammi Kapoor is getting younger with each film I have
so far watched. I have yet to see "Junglee" [1961]
or any of his films from the 1950s, as there seems to be as
of yet, no DVDs available for those titles. But as time goes
by I am sure these early Shammi Kapoor films will become available
and I can continue to watch him become younger and younger.
