"Taal" is the magus opus of "The Showman", Subhash Ghai's directorial career. "Taal" is ultimately a grand re-hash of every film Ghai has made over his long career. An educated viewer of this director's films will recognize, camera shots, song settings, scenes, plot devices, action sequences, close-ups, etc. from other Subhash Ghai films in "Taal". One comes away with the feeling though of satisfaction, that they have not just been givin a re-hash but have witnessed the culmination and realization in near perfect picturization of the Subhash Ghai style. Ghai is a master of Bollywood kitsch, making baroque entertainers that absolutly deliver. He made some of the most popular hit films of the 1980s. If one sees only one Subhash Ghai film, it should be "Taal". |
