Rekha (in the super kitsch) - "Hawas" (1974)

If it's 70s kitsch you want, "Hawas" delivers 100%. It's the story of a small time hoodlum who dreams of breaking into the big time and gets his chance when he gets a job to steal a super garish diamond necklace woth RS.5 crores. The diamonds belong to the over sexed nymphomaniac wife (played by Bindu) of a multimillionaire. That part of the plot is just for starters. Rekha has a guest appearance in an item number that takes place in a super sleazy night club and has her puffing hashish through a chillum while a man blowing a trumpet watches. This movie is like "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" Bollywood style.

Bindu has an incredible fantasy song picturization that takes place in a psychedelic grotto filled with multicolored balloons and colored lights and confetti. If that wasn't enough, "Hawas" was Neetu Singh's debut film and she has a song picturization with questionable lesbian overtones.

What a film! This is the type of Bollywood movie that will have Indian intellectuals crawling under their seats in shame and lovers of 'mondo' cinema reaching for the chapter repeat buttons on their DVD players.
