Suchitra Sen's was one of the great faces of cinema history. Virtually unknown to the West, in India she is know as the Greta Garbo of Indian film. Sen was primarily a Bengali film actress, however she made a handful of Hindi Popular films, the most notable being Bimal Roy's "Devdas" [1955], in which she defined the role of Parvati (Paro). "Shilpi" was one of her many Bengali films that she co-stared with her husband, Uttam Kumar who himself was a leading actor of Begali cinema. One critic labeled then the "Spencer Tracy and Audrey Hepburn of Bengali cinema". |
