"Woh Kaun Thi" was director Raj Khosla's
adaptation of Hitchcock's "Vertigo". Sadhana plays a mysterious
woman that haunts the psyche of Manoj Kumar who becomes obsessed with desire
for her. Where as "Vertigo" was about the reinvention of self through
the metaphors of reincarnation and detective work, "Woh Kaun Thi"
is about appropriation of identity in a changing culture. The film has beautiful
Film Noir inspired camera work that won the Filmfare Award for its cinematography.
Raj Khosla directed a number of drama based films that were very popular
in the 60s and 70s. "Woh Kaun Thi" was a big hit.
